Established in the summer of 2007, we design make and sell innovative greetings cards in central London. A fondness for both modernity and Victoriana has inspired two distinct characters in our collections, the simpler standardised statements and the intricate florid motifs linked by a flavour of the whimsical with quality as a priority.

Brainstorming and dreaming blended with research into vintage designs led us to where we are today. Conceived by hand, digitally produced and cut in our home with the help of a machine, our cards are in four classic colours, and reflect our interest in nuances of emotion and atmosphere.

With a tale to tell behind each card, we hope that in times to come The Plant will become a very personal anthology of our thoughts and ideas. We intend to delight and excite with the theatricity of our cards and so make our prices reasonable hoping that you enjoy them as much as we do.

We've arrived!

...in Edinburgh amidst the wind, sun and scattered showers and are now exhibiting in the Marquee in the West End Design Fair.
A big thankyou to all who have bought and browsed already, contributing to the great response for our new collection!

Some comments from the first day:
"Everybody loves a bird"
"Oh my God just look at the inside"
"I wouldn't send it, I'd keep it"
"Bellissimo!"

and one of my favorites said to my face:
"I'm afraid I just go to Tesco for mine"

Looking forward to meeting a lot more people and more photos coming soon.

welcome to our new home!

Hello to everyone and welcome to our new blog. Sorry for the delay of our official website due to technical difficulties, this will be our new home until further notice. (or until Cai Jia completes her Multimedia course and is no longer a technophobe.)

Thanks so much to everyone for your help and support back in December when we launched our Christmas range 07. It was a great success and we were so pleased that we got to meet so many people who showed interest and were so genuinely helpful in giving us advice for the future.

Please keep checking back here for further updates as we're soon to start working on our new birthday collection. We are also undertaking a few private bespoke commissions for weddings and are open to enquiries or for a chat about your requirements. Please direct any questions to Cai Jia at entertheplant@googlemail.com

In the mean time here's a reminder of our Christmas collection, please email us for a price list ( both trade and individual customers) thanks!

Surprise range, 5 designs
These cards have holes cut out of the front to reveal the red insert inside and playfully cast a shadow on the inside when put in the light. The inserts are held by cut-outs of festive scenes. Designs come complete with a red envelope and cellophane wrap.

Snowflake Range, 5 designs
These six pointed icons of Christmas invite you to look closer as they are formed from more than meets the eye. A printed insert for your greeting is held in by festive shapes and our burning process leaves a natural gold hue around each snowflake. Designs come complete with a red envelope.

Recipe Range, 6 designs
Inspired by Victorian cookbooks and flock wallpaper this is both a card and a present. With wallpaper patterns formed from the ingredients in the recipe, this card comes complete with a recipe card insert (with ingredients and instructions) and hand drawn illustration of the finished product. Bound with red satin ribbon. Designs come complete with a red envelope and cellophane wrap.
